When, smack in the middle of our seclusion, Kevin Halligan and Dee Sonthikoumanne opened White River’s Funkalicious Market and Deli, the place was an instant winner, offering the kind of twisty comfort-food takeout we needed most at the moment. It was also something of a ray of hope, proof that we — diner and restaurateur both — weren’t beat yet. Now, as we venture back out of our homes, the Funkalicious guys are again giving us what the moment demands — a small new spot in which we can once more take our places at tables amid friends, loved ones, and like-minded strangers to not just enjoy a meal, but hand ourselves over to those who mission it is to make us feel good with deliciously local food. The Chef & Butcher
Since opening in November, Funkalicious Market and Deli in White River Junction has proven to be a welcome addition to the Upper Valley food scene, packing powerful flavors into unique sandwiches, deli meats, and daily specials. Now, Head Chef Kevin Halligan and Sous Chef Dee Sonthikoumanne are taking on fine dining right next door when they open The Chef & Butcher on Friday, July 9th.
“I haven’t cooked dinner in awhile,” Kevin laughs as he prepares test dishes for the new restaurant. “I almost forgot the silverware.”
